Bulletin 1: Flexible Retirement Procedure Change
I am writing to let you know about a minor change in process for Flexible Retirement cases.
Currently, the FR2 form, which employers must complete to approve a Flexible Retirement case, asks the member to declare whether they wish to remain in the LGPS following the flexible retirement.
The member will no longer be asked this question and instead will remain as a member of the scheme. This section of the form has now been removed and the latest version can be found on the website. Employers must start using the new form with immediate effect. If there any on-going cases where a member has elected to opt out of the scheme, these will be honoured.
However, where an old form is submitted and dated 13 January 2026 or later, these will be returned and a new form will need to be completed.
As with all scheme members, the right to opt out of the LGPS remains and any member wishing to do so can complete an Opt Out form, as is currently the case.
Please contact Stuart Wells if you have any questions regarding this change.
