Academies

Academies are recognised in the LGPS regulations as scheme employers and automatically participate in the scheme. As such, local authority schools based in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland join the Leicestershire County Council Pension Fund upon conversion.

Although the new academy becomes an LGPS employer automatically, the process is reliant on the academy providing us with some important information at the point of conversion. This information includes details of all the staff who are contributing to the LGPS the day before conversion and all those who newly joined the LGPS upon conversion, including those joined through automatic enrolment.

For local authority-maintained schools, the fund will also require a copy of the Academy Order.

The fund will need to instruct the actuary to carry out their actuarial assessment based on the data of the members transferring. The cost of this work is £1750 + VAT and the academy trust is invoiced for this.

If your school is converting to an academy, or if your academy is joining a multi-academy trust then please contact the Pensions Team at your earliest convenience for more information.
